Andrew and Brittney are some of my closest friends. They’re the kind of couple people dream of being one day. I truly believe they have the relationship that God intends for everyone to find. Two individuals who are incredible on their own, join together and are a powerful force for the Kingdom of God. I am so grateful for the friendship I have with them. When Andrew told Gracie and I that he was ready to propose, we knew it was perfect. The one thing Brittney loves more than anything is her students, and we knew it would mean the world to her for them to be a part. Andrew and Brittney spent their semester together leading our student internship called 2:52. The past Sunday was the 2:52 graduation celebration and the perfect opportunity for him to pop the question. For the past couple of weeks, Gracie, Andrew, and I have been secretly planning and meeting to plan the perfect day. We got REALLY good at being sneaky, even if it meant seeming like not so great of friends at times to Britt ;) Little did she know ;) Graduation started and everything was perfect. Brittney had NO idea. towards the very end, Josiah, one of their students, grabbed the mic and made an announcement that they had a surprise for Brittney and Andrew. They had to be blindfolded to go find it. Andrew immediately took his blindfold off and everyone headed to the patio outside where both of their families and closest friends met us. We had four students read off “I will” statements, of things they were committing to live by as they walked out of this semester. After all of the students read theirs, Britt took her blindfold off and Andrew read his. “I will lead you. I will serve you. I will protect you. I will honor you. I will provide for you. I will bless you. I will forever love you. I will be yours and you will be mine.”
In that moment Andrew got down to his knee and proposed. It was truly one of the most beautiful moments I have ever experienced. We got to celebrate this precious couple at my house afterwards with lots of sweets and tacos :) Andrew and Britt, thank you for being such a huge part of my life. God put you in my life at the perfect time and in such a unique way and I am forever grateful. I cannot wait to stand beside you as you become one and start your life together as husband and wife. I love you!
Here’s the slideshow with some sweet video footage of the proposal. ShearsProposal from Elizabeth Ann King on Vimeo.

Brittany and Bubba have been some of my close friends for a while now, and I was so honored when they asked me to shoot their maternity pictures. We shot them this past Tuesday in Tuscaloosa, and sure enough little Benton came on Thursday! Just in time :) Enjoy! If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you probably know that I love Haiti. I’ve been to Haiti several times and really feel like God has given me a passion and gift to love and reach the people there. While I don’t feel called to move there or serve in that capacity, I know there will always be such a sweet place and passion in my heart for this country. Tonight my heart feels slightly torn while also feeling so held by His heart. I miss this place. I miss these people. I miss the freedom and joy. I love Birmingham and I know God has me here for a reason, but I can’t stop thinking about there. There is a lot God has me in Birmingham for, and I am forever grateful for that. But that doesn’t take away this love and longing. That doesn’t mean I don’t think about and pray for my sweet friends there. (and secretly hope the door opens for a trip to visit soon;)). The cool thing about my time in Haiti was that i got to see real life. I think sometimes short term missions can cloud your view of the place. We turn people to be loved into a project. We turn a society that needs to be trained and equipped into a “less fortunate” place that needs us to hold their hand and not let go. But what we don’t realize is these precious people who have made a life over there. No it’s not always the best conditions and no it’s not always the most ideal situations, but there are moms and dads and precious children who live their every day life there. When we leave, they stay. I had the amazing honor of getting to know the hearts behind some of these beautiful people. It blows me away that we serve and know the same God, no matter the culture differences or the miles in between. These people have taught me how to love. They’ve taught me how to live freely. They’ve shown me grace. Such undeserving grace. They’ve showed me that to have fun you just need each other. I’m choosing to focus on what I do know, not what I don’t. Because while the path before me is unclear, the One who makes straight that path is not. and tonight, I rest. When the way isn’t clear, I rest. I know the one who created the way. So here’s to unclear paths and random passions straight from God. :)
Katy has been one of my closest friends for quite some time now. her and her husband, Allen, have played a huge part in my life and I was so honored when they asked me to shoot their wedding. A few weeks before the wedding Katy and I met up and shot some bridals. Check them out and leave her some love! |
